Graft

Now + There

Central Wharf Park, Boston

Octubre 2023 - Present

Edra Soto’s projects are motivated by civic and social actions. Born in 1971 in Puerto Rico, now lives and works in Chicago. Her work tends to alternate between various representations and the object as an archive. History and culture are always present and noticeable in her practice. Her intention is to challenge the public to take a moment of introspection and think of themes such as socio-economic and forgotten cultural knowledge. Soto's work has evolved to raise questions about the legacy of colonialism, diasporic identity and social life. Soto often works with aluminum and PVC, among other materials to give her work the depth it needs to extend a specific message.

This interactive installation offers a safe space of peace among a chaotic city where visitors can engage with the different pieces by sitting around it and enjoying the beauty of the shadows they create while enjoying being outside. Inspired by “Rejas” from Puerto Rico, Edra Soto invites the public to explore the beautiful cultural heritage of architecture and art from her native country.
